Violet Grimes, a beloved matriarch and guiding light to all who knew her, passed away Monday, June 16, 2025, at Norton Hospital in Louisville. She wore many titles with pride—mother, wife, daughter, sister, aunt, mamaw—and was a beloved friend to many.
She was reunited in heaven with her devoted husband, Carlos Grimes. Violet was the proud and loving mother of Diane (James) Priddy, Susan (Mark) Cardin, and Kaye (Myron) Reynolds.
Violet is survived by her dear siblings: Pearlie, Etta, and Linda. She was reunited in rest with her siblings Ray, Lucille, Alberta, Jackie, Frances and Herman, and by her loving parents, Herman and Audrey (Lawson) Peters.
She was the cherished grandmother of many grandchildren and her legacy continues through her adored great-grandchildren.
She was truly the glue that held her family together. Her presence was always a place of warmth, comfort, and open arms. Whether it was playing a hand of cards, a late night phone call, a shoulder to lean on, or words of wisdom softly spoken, she had a quiet strength and gentle heart that made everyone feel safe and cherished.
She was deeply loved and respected not only by her family, but by countless friends, neighbors, and all those fortunate enough to cross her path. She was the type of person who would give her last dollar if she knew you needed it. Her kindness, resilience, and unconditional love leave behind a lasting imprint on every life she touched.
Though her physical presence will be deeply missed, her spirit will live on in the traditions she created, the stories she told, and the love she gave so freely.
She embraced the world with a mother’s love to all. Her wings were ready even though our hearts were not. Now she flies free–our eternal butterfly.
The family will have a celebration of life on July 13th, 2025 from 1pm to 3pm at Thurman Landing, 201 W. Western Ave, Sonora, KY 42776.
