Theresa “Terri” Jo Phelps, 67, died peacefully at her home on January 26th 2023 surrounded by her family, after a 4 year battle with cancer.
Her professional life as a nurse, an act of service, involved over 15 years helping mothers bring their newborn babies into the world and 20 years bringing people to a place of healing in the operating room among some of her closest friends at Norton Audubon Hospital. Louisville, KY was her hometown followed by time spent in Florida and along the Southeast coast of the United States until settling in Hodgenville for the last 34 years.
To know Terri, or Nana as she was known to her 11 grandchildren, was to know a fiery personality whose ancestral roots were firmly planted in Marion County and knew how to love people with unflinching support and a disposition that never lacked for honesty. The only thing small about Terri was her stature - everything else was marked by a massive heart for her family and deep belief that through sheer grit, dogged determination and a bit of luck anything was possible for anyone who had the gift of being encouraged by her.
She was preceded in death by her father, Joseph Orville Thomas; mother, Louise Cross Thomas and brother, Gregory Thomas.
Terri is survived by her husband Glenn, children Clifton (Jennifer) Phelps, Jessica Castenir, Matthew (Heather) Nicklies, Cara (Rick) Hill and Caleb (Whitley) Phelps; grandchildren, Raegan Phelps, Josiah Castenir, India Phelps, Alexis Hill, Elijah Phelps, Hunter Hill, Claire Hill, Norah Phelps, Carlyn Jo Nicklies, Ellie Phelps and Amelia Hill; her beloved dogs, Sadie Mae and Pansy Ley; siblings Susan (Joe) Dever, Judy (Joe) Schwenker, Todd (Kathy) Thomas and sister-in-law, Cathy Thomas.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, January 30, at Parkway Baptist Church in Hodgenville with Bro. DeWayne Gibson officiating. Burial will follow in Red Hill Cemetery.
Visitation is from 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Bennett-Bertram Funeral Home in Hodgenville and after 10 a.m. Monday at the church.
Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to Hosparus of Central Kentucky, PO Box 2149, Elizabethtown, KY 42702.
