Ruth Yvonne Simmons

Mrs. Ruth Yvonne Simmons, a resident of Hodgenville KY, passed away, July 16, 2025, at the age of 101. She passed peacefully at the Carl M. Brashear Veteran's Center in Radcliff, KY.

She was born March 26, 1924 in Georgetown, Ill. to the late Blanche and William Hawkins, along with One sister and Three brothers. She was preceded in death by her husband Theodore D Simmons and her eldest son Theodore D Simmons II.

She is survived by her second son Michael G Simmons of Hodgenville KY, and daughter Beverly K Buckwalter of Melbourne, FL.

She had four grandchildren, Michael G Simmons II of Louisville KY, Andrew R Simmons of Hodgenville KY, Charles Q Buckwalter III of Melbourne FL, and Kelsey R Good of Pittsburgh PA. Plus two great grandchildren.

Mrs. Simmons joined the United States Navy in 1942 and was stationed in San Diego, CA where she met her husband who was in the what was formally known as the United States Army Air Corps at the time, later the United States Air Force.

After traveling in Europe as a military family, she settled in Hampton Roads Virginia and began working as a secretary for 26 years as a civilian in the United States Air Force.

Upon retirement, she and her husband traveled the country. Ruth loved to talk about world events and was highly interested in the latest scientific discoveries. Her hobbies in life consisted of Sewing and Quilting which gave her great joy in life during her retirement years.

Ruth was cremated and she will be laid to rest alongside her husband in Arlington National Cemetery.
