Ruth Wortham

Ruth Hazle Wortham, age 94, of Hodgenville, passed away peacefully, Thursday, July 27, 2023, surrounded by her loving family.

She loved the Lord who blessed her with a long active life. Known as the best salad maker at Pizza Zone for over 25 years where “Love” was her main ingredient. Employees and customers alike called her “Mom”. In her earlier days, she was a Cub Scout Den Mother for her son’s troop, a Sunday school teacher, gifted seamstress and a much sought after caregiver for the elderly. She was an enthusiastic reader right until the end. Most recently, she was scheduled to be a co-recipient of the LaRue County Fair 2023 Mother of the year award. Her children were able to present her with that award prior to her passing.

Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, Harlan “Pooch” Wortham; her parents, Homer and Laura Hazle and two sisters, Letha McDowell and Pauline Poore.

Those left to cherish her memory are a son, David (Lois) Wortham of Elizabethtown; two daughters, Janice (Don) Miller of Hodgenville, Beth (Ricky) Keith of Magnolia; two grandsons, Kenneth (Belinda) Wortham of Myrtle Beach, Jamie (Angela) Miller of Buffalo; three great granddaughters, Mallory (Colin) Sellers, Sydney Wortham, Emily Miller; two great-great grandchildren, Addilyn Sellers, RaeLynn Sellers; seven step grandchildren, Coreen, Scott, Jannette, Tammy, Jeff, Jessica and Jordain, along with several nieces and nephews. She was very much a cat lover and will be missed terribly by Socks.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Sunday, July 30, at Bennett-Bertram Funeral Home with Bro. David Wortham officiating. Burial will follow in Red Hill Cemetery. 

Visitation will be 3 to 8 p.m. Saturday and after 10 a.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Pallbearers: Kenneth Wortham, Jamie Miller, Jimmy Poore, Rodney McDowell, Dale Haysley and Jordain Edmonds.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made to “The Dolly Foundation” in care of the LaRue County Public Library, 215 Lincoln Drive, Hodgenville, KY 42748 or a charity of your choosing.
