Ruby Aleen Helm Benningfield, age 88, of Louisville, passed away, Friday, October 13, 2023, at Baptist Health Floyd in New Albany Indiana.
She was a member of Unity Missionary Baptist Church and created the name after the church was established, was a volunteer at Waverly Hills Sanitorium through Friendship Separate Baptist Church, a member of Eastern Star for over 50 years, worked at American Tobacco as a machinist till it closed, co-owner of Benningfield Building and Remodeling where she designed kitchens, she was a homemaker and her last business endeavor was Ruby’s Cleaning Service. She loved gardening, sewing, reading and animals especially her dogs Spencer and Jaxon.
Ruby was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. James Benningfield; her parents, John Leslie “Jack” and Daisy Bennett Helm and a brother Harlan Eugene Helm.
She is survived by a son, Rodger Dale (Leesa) Benningfield of Louisville; a daughter, Lisa Benningfield Caplinger of Jeffersonville Indiana; four grandchildren, Travis (Kelly) Vaughn, Ashley (Brandon) Elder, James Robert “Rob” Benningfield and Jenna Benningfield; four great-grandchildren, Sarena Vaughn, Blake Vaughn, Gabriel Goomey and Regan Goomey.
Funeral services will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday, October 18, at Unity Missionary Baptist Church, 11512 Andalee Dr, Louisville KY, 40272 with Rev. Travis Vaughn officiating. A private burial will be Thursday, October 19, at Mt. Moriah Baptist Church in Mt. Sherman KY.
Visitation will be 1 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Church.
