Rita Ann Benningfield Lawson, age 71, of Phenix City, Alabama, went to be with her Lord on Friday, March 24, 2023.
Mrs. Lawson was born and raised in Magnolia, KY, the daughter of the late James Gilbert Benningfield and Ruby Ragland Benningfield. After high school, she married the love of life, the late Kenneth Wayne Lawson. Together, they moved to Virginia due to his career and ultimately made Virginia their home. Since her youth, Rita was a devout follower of Jesus Christ and put Him first in every aspect of her life. She lived a life before others that would lead people to Christ. She was known for her empathy and sympathy towards others and instilled these values in her children. Rita was a caring and loving mother who placed her family first. She supported her children’s sporting activities and was very passionate about the games they were involved in. Mrs. Lawson was also a talented musician who could sing, play the piano and guitar. Above all, she loved and cherished the time she spent with her family, especially her grandchildren.
Those left to cherish her memory are two sons, Christian (Shannon) Lawson of Phenix City, AL and Michael (Shawn) Lawson of Hughesville, Maryland; a brother, Jimmy (Pat) Benningfield of Elizabethtown and two grandchildren Stephen Lawson of Fredericksburg, VA and Mason Lawson of Phenix City, AL; a great-grandson, Tristian Lawson.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. (ET), on Monday, April 3, at Dixon-Rogers Funeral Home in Magnolia with Sister Doris Randols officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Moriah Church Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 11a.m. to 1 p.m., Monday at the funeral home.
