Patrick Rudolph “Pat” Burd, 76, of Hodgenville, passed away peacefully at his home on Wednesday, December 17, 2025, after a 6 year long battle with cancer.
Pat was the kind of man who anchored his family. He was a devoted husband, a proud father, a beloved papaw, and a steady presence to everyone who knew him. He led by example—quiet strength, loyalty, and love for his family defined who he was.
A proud Vietnam Veteran, Pat served in the United States Army and was honored with several commendations, including the Bronze Star Medal. His service never ended when he came home. He remained deeply connected to his fellow veterans through American Legion Post 87 and as a life member of the VFW, where he also served on the honor guard—an honor he took to heart.
Pat found joy in life’s simple moments: a fishing line in the water, watching birds from his yard, a good western on TV, and especially time spent laughing over a poker game with his veteran buddies. But his greatest joy was his family.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Linda Burd, whom he loved deeply; his parents, Rudolph Warren and Nora Martha (Mather) Burd; and his sisters, Patricia Burd and Linda Belt.
Those left to cherish his memory include his children, Kelly (Maggie) Burd, Martin Jewell, and Jenee (Aaron) Butterworth; his siblings, Cathy Waltz and Gary (Belinda) Burd; his grandchildren, Daylin, Kaden, Patrick, and Olivia, who knew him as Papaw; his great-grandchildren, Katherine and William; and a special nephew, Mark Belt.
Pat’s legacy lives on in the family he loved, the values he passed down, and the quiet moments of kindness and strength he shared with others.
Visitation will be from 10-12 and a memorial service with military honors will be held at 12:00 noon on Monday, December 22, 2025, at Bennett-Bertram Funeral Home in Hodgenville, with Kyle Williamson giving the eulogy.
