Mary Kennady, age 100, passed away peacefully with her daughters by her side at Sunrise Manor Nursing Home on Thursday, December 14, 2023. Mary was born on May 25, 1923, to the late Dan and Dora Wright. Mary was preceded by her brother, Arvin Wright; her sister, Allean Skaggs and a niece, Janice Jones.
Mary was known by all to be an absolute tireless worker. Through the years Mary worked in various jobs fields including school service, retail, and manufacturing, always making lifelong friends and creating laughter all along the way. After retiring, Mary spend her time around home enjoying yard work, helping raise her two grandsons, and spending time with her neighbors.
Mary moved to Sunrise Manor at the young age of 95. From that day on Mary always enjoyed helping others, typically through laughter. She enjoyed arts and crafts, playing bingo, and listening to music and even partook in a little wheelchair dancing.
Mary was the oldest living charter member of Ovesen Heights Baptist Church. Just this past year Mary became a centenarian receiving over 500 hundred birthday cards from across the United States. She recently was recognized by receiving one of LaRue County’s 2023 Mother of the Year Awards and being inducted into Signature Health’s Sunrise Manor Hall of Fame.
Mary is survived by her two daughters, Jo Vickery and Billie “Koochie” (Gary) Routt; two grandsons, Lee (Brittany) Vickery and Oakes (Kellie) Routt; five great-grandchildren, Jax and Hazel Vickery, Archer, Aiden, and Anson Routt; nieces, Madonna (Joe) Shanks and June Jones; nephews, Larrry (Barbara) Wright, Rhondal (Sharon) Wright, and Mark (Mary) Kennady; and a special friend Dorothy “Dee” Taylor.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Sunday, December 17, at Bennett-Bertram Funeral Home in Hodgenville with Bro. Sid Lewis and Bro. Merrill Kurtz officiating. Burial will follow in the Red Hill Cemetery.
Visitation will be 1 to 7 p.m. Saturday and continue after 10 a.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
The pallbearers will be Lee Vickery, Oakes Routt, Brent Wright, Chase Watson, Greg Mayfield, and Scott Wright; honorary pallbearers will be Jax Vickery, Anson Routt, Archer Routt, Aiden Routt.
