Martha Ann Hudgins Hornback, age 85, of Sonora, passed away peacefully at her residence on Friday, January 12, 2024, after an extended illness.
Born to the late Homer Lee Sr. and Ruby Louise Tharp Hudgins on March 1, 1938, Martha was raised in the Siberia community in LaRue County. Of the Baptist faith, she was baptized at Barren Run in the 1940s. After graduating from Hodgenville High School in 1955, she began work for civil service at Fort Knox. She wed Evan “Junior” Hornback on November 11, 1959 and moved to the Oak Hill community, where they resided until the time of their passing. She retired from Fort Knox as Property Book Team Chief in the Department of Engineering and Housing in 1991. In her later years, she enjoyed taking trips with her husband, catching up with friends on the telephone, and, above all, spending time with her grand and great-grandchildren. She was a loving wife, sister, mother, grandmother and friend, and she will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 61 years Junior Hornback; her parents; two brothers, Homer Lee “John” Hudgins, Jr. and William Grayson “Billy” Hudgins and a sister-in-law, Beverly Priddy.
She leaves behind to cherish her memory a son, Jeff (Barbara) Hornback of Sonora; a daughter, Jennifer (Terry) Gardner of Sonora; six grandchildren, Megan (Ray) Nunn of Sonora, Ashley (Brett) Carter of Hodgenville, Jarred (Ashley) Gardner of Hodgenville, Keaton (Amanda) Gardner of Sonora, Chelsea (Scott) Davenport of Elizabethtown and Skyler Hornback of Sonora; 15 great-grandchildren, Colton, Aven, Harper, Ruby, Hayden, Mattie, Grayson, Emma, Owen, Bennett, Mila, Nolan, Tate, Lukas, Hunter and Preslee; a brother-in-law, Cleston (Eula) Hornback of Sonora; a sister-in-law, Sharon (Larry) Nunn of Magnolia and a brother-in-law, Everett (Linda) Priddy of Danville.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, January 18, at Bennett-Bertram Funeral Home in Hodgenville, with Bros. Mitch Whidden and Everett Priddy officiating. Burial follows in Red Hill Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and after 9 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
