Margaret Whitlock Obituary

Margaret Ann Allen Whitlock went home to be with the Lord after 86 years of faithful service to her family, community, church and Savior.  She was a well-respected leader in Jericho, Whitlock Holler and the Asa Whitlock branch of the Whitlock Family Tree.

During her 86 years Margaret raised four sons; Ricky, Ronald, Billy and Barry and her youngest brother, Larry Allen.  She also contributed to the rearing of her eleven grandchildren and countless nieces and nephews who romped Whitlock holler for the last 70 years.  She took care of the elderly in the now defunct community of Jericho and spent many years checking in on them daily.  Margaret was a matriarch in every sense of the word.

Margaret was born just after the Great Depression and into a family built on love and perseverance, traits Margret carried with her for the rest of her natural life.  Her mother Catherine Allen went to be with the Lord when Margaret was just 14, leaving her to be the primary maternal figure for her 4 brothers just as she entered her formative years.  She was a story book picture of a farmer’s wife, spending long days in the tobacco patch and hay field, followed by preparing a full dinner for her family before going back to feed livestock and then finishing her days homemaking.  She quietly commanded respect from anyone who got to know her.

Margaret was known throughout Larue County for her clear blue eyes, fresh squeezed lemonade, homemade cornbread and pies and countless special requests from her children and grandchildren.  She led a simple life, but she was very bright and left joy with everyone she met.  Her family meant more to her than anything, but her community and church family came in a close second.  While the family mourns her Earthly body, their hope is found in the fact that she now sits in the company of the Father.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Ruel and Catherine Druien Allen; three brothers, Harold, Gussie and Charles Allen and a granddaughter, Jennifer.

Maragret is survived by her husband, Asa Whitlock; four sons, Ricky (Deborah) Whitlock, Ronald Whitlock, Billy (Rhonda) Whitlock and Barry (Melanie) Whitlock, all of Hodgenville; a brother, Larry (Sharon) Allen of Hodgenville; ten grandchildren, Eli, Ellen, Ethan, Blake, Valerie, Lyndsay, Angelia, Ryan, Jared and Katherine and 11 great-grandchildren, Elizabeth, Lyndsey, Elijah, Hadley, Emma, Millie, Amelia, Charlotte, Teddy, Asa and Tate.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 2, at Mt. Tabor Baptist Church with her son, Billy Whitlock officiating.  Burial will be in the church cemetery.  A pot-luck luncheon will follow in the church fellowship hall.

Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Monday and from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Bennett-Bertram Funeral Home in Hodgenville.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to Wesley Meadows United Methodist Church and may be made at the funeral home.
