Johnnie L. “Pappy” Slayton, age 78, of Magnolia, gained his wings on Saturday, October 2, 2021, at the Medical Center of Bowling Green.
He retired from GE in Louisville and was pastor of Mt. Sherman Mission Church. Johnnie enjoyed farming and spoiling his great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Willie and Gladys Noe Slayton; two grandchildren, Michael Boone and Misty Sallee; a great-grandson, A.J. Boone and five sisters, Alvita Slayton, Sylvia Donita Slayton, Dora Joyce Thompson, Mary B. Lewis and Geraldine Benningfield Geary.
Johnnie is survived by his wife of 58 years, Virginia Mae Robinson Slayton; two daughters, Donna (James) Williamson and Kathy (Terry) Sallee; three foster children, Damien Speed, Cassidy Speed and Jenny Sallee; five grandchildren, Anthony (Christina) Boone, Marci Boone, Tommy (Jamie) Speed, Sarah Sallee and Alyssa Sallee; 11 great-grandchildren, Austin, Kadence, Logan, Eli, Chloe, Damien, Cassidy, Victoria, Cody, Xander and Jenny; two brothers, Thomas Slayton and Sammy “Bo” (Sandra) Slayton and a sister, Rita (Jerry) Brasher.
Funeral services will be held at 3 PM (ET), Tuesday, October 5, 2021, at Dixon-Rogers Funeral Home in Magnolia with Bros. Troy Benningfield and Dale Warren officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. Moriah Baptist Church Cemetery.
Visitation begins after 11 AM (ET), Tuesday at the funeral home.
