John W. Nevitt, Jr, 78, of Mt. Washington, passed away peacefully, surrounded by loved ones, on Sunday, March 6, 2022, at Norton Brownsboro Hospital.
He was born March 12, 1943, in Washington, D.C. and as a child, loved running the grounds at Mt. Vernon, where his father worked for many years.
He served his country in the United States Army in the 1960’s and was stationed at Ft. Knox. He was skilled in automotive mechanics and worked for nearly 40 years for St. Matthews Imports. Throughout his life, he enjoyed traveling (road trips were his favorite), hunting, playing golf, playing cards, getting together with family and friends, motorcycle riding and was an avid fan of the Washington Commanders football team. As a veteran, he had recently been accepted to an Honor Flight to celebrate America's veterans and be recognized for his service. As a patriot, he worked the voter polls for the last several years of his retirement.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Anita F. Wilkins Nevitt; his parents, John W. and Nancy Dove Nevitt, Sr.; his twin brothers, Gary (Kathy) and Cary (Gail) Nevitt and beloved aunts and uncles.
He is survived by his son, John W (Erin) Nevitt, III, of Louisville; 2 grandchildren, Molly and Will Nevitt; a sister, Judy Nevitt, of Manassas, VA; a companion, Joyce Guy of Mt. Washington as well as many other nieces, nephews and other family members.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. (ET), Saturday, March 12, at Dixon-Rogers Funeral Home in Magnolia with Rev. Dennis Peace officiating. Burial will follow next to his beloved wife, Anita, in Mt. Zion Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. (ET), Saturday at the funeral home.
