James “Jim” L. Miles, 86, formerly of Hodgenville, passed away Sunday, December 11, 2022, at River Pointe Health Campus in Evansville, Indiana.
He was born on March 12, 1936, in Shreveport, Louisiana to the late Hugh and Elizabeth Hornberger Miles. He grew up in Manila, Arkansas and graduated from Arkansas State University in Jonesboro.
Jim served 21 years as an Army officer before retiring as a Major in 1979. After retiring, he served as a computer specialist with Meers Tire Warehouse in Buffalo, Kentucky. Shortly after moving to Buffalo, he joined the Lions Club and served in both the Buffalo and Hodgenville clubs for a total of 45 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Huey Miles and his sister, Ann Miles Wells. He was also preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Ann Blackwell Miles; his son James E. Miles and a beloved friend, Margaret Garrett.
Survivors include his daughter, Laura Porter of Newburgh, Indiana and his son, Chris (Jennifer) Miles of Winchester, Kentucky. Surviving grandchildren are Whitney Schmitt, of Newburgh, Indiana, Tyler Miles, Courtney Miles and Rebekah Miles, all of Winchester, Kentucky. Surviving great-grandchildren are Emma Schmitt and Paxton Schmitt of Newburgh, Indiana. Also surviving are two brothers-in-law, Curtis Blackwell and Roland Wells; a sister-in-law, Beth Blackwell and several nieces and nephews.
Memorial services will be held at 1 p.m., Wednesday, January 4, at Bennett-Bertram Funeral Home in Hodgenville with Bro. Bruce Hiner officiating.
Visitation begins at 10 a.m. at the funeral home.
Graveside services with military honors will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday, January 13, at KY Veterans Cemetery-Central in Radcliff.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, Hodgenville United Methodist Church, or the Hodgenville Lions Club.
