Howard Thomas Shelton, age 83, of Mt. Sherman, passed away Thursday, August 17, 2023, at Baptist Health Hardin in Elizabethtown.
Howard was a Baptist by faith, making a confession as a teenager. He loved sports and played varsity basketball for the old Buffalo High school Bisons, bowled, golfed, hunted and played fast pitch softball where he was named to several all-star teams. He also loved his Kentucky Wildcats and St. Louis Cardinals. Later in his life (about 60) he turned to four-wheeler riding and loved the camaraderie of trail riding with others much younger than he was. His family is proud to say few people had the knowledge of classic cars that he did.
Howard was preceded in death by his wife, Sharon Hager Shelton; a son, Christopher Alan Shelton; his parents, Everett and Thelma Shelton; a sister, Virginia Shelton Dunn and five brothers, Alvis Shelton, Sam Shelton, Harold Wesley Shelton, Wayne Shelton and Robert Alfred Shelton.
He is survived by a daughter, Staci Leigh Vititoe; six grandchildren, Casey Nicole Shelton, Sidney Taylor Vititoe, Samantha Marie Vititoe, Bonnie Shelton, Christopher Shelton Jr., Jonathan Slinker; three great-grandchildren, Aiden Alexander Zaza, Nate Slinker and Michael Slinker; a brother, Edwin (Ruth) Shelton as well as several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, August 24, at Bennett-Bertram Funeral Home in Hodgenville with Jonathan Slinker delivering the eulogy. Cremation will follow.
Visitation will be held 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday and after 9 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
