Gene 'Obadiah' Okeson, 84, peacefully passed away from this life Friday, Sept 6th, surrounded by his family into the loving arms of his Savior, Jesus.
Obadiah loved Jesus, and delighted in sharing the love of Jesus with everyone he met more than anything (you may remember receiving an encouragement card or two from him when you would run into him).
A Navy veteran, he was by trade a carpenter, general contractor, Sunrise Manor volunteer for many years, and loved visiting and fellowshipping with different church families around the country.
Preceded in death by his parents, Raymond & Helen Okeson, brother Ed Okeson, sister Carolyn Szklanecki, and two grandchildren, Aaron Wieser and John Robert Okeson.
Obadiah shared his love of Jesus with his beautiful wife of 53 years, Phyllis 'Rebekah' Okeson, of Hodgenville. And they both shared that love with their children: Barbara (Randy) Weiser, of Illinois, Margene (Phil) Kolen, of California, Mary (Erik) Schultz, Peter (Kathy) Okeson, both of Hodgenville, and Liz (Ryan) Dickens of Colorado. Also left to cherish his memory, a sister, Linda Price of North Carolina; eight grandchildren; six great grandchildren and a host of brothers and sisters in Christ.
There will not be any services at this time. However, there will be a celebration of life service for Obadiah Okeson at 2:00pm EST, September 14 at Mt Moriah Baptist Church.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you donate to the Gideons International, PO Box 25, Hodgenville, KY 42748, to continue sharing the love of Jesus with others.
Bennett-Bertram funeral home is assisting with arrangements.
