Flora Belle Crowe Veirs, age 99, of Hodgenville, passed away January 28, 2023, at Bluegrass Assisted Living in Elizabethtown, KY.
She was born in Hardin County on March 24, 1923, to the late William Everett Crowe and Nannie Martha Tatum Crowe. She married the love of her life, Elza M. Veirs, on August 16, 1941.
The couple moved to LaRue County in 1942 when they and other family members were displaced due to the expansion of Fort Knox. Flora Belle was a homemaker who also worked alongside her husband on their farm. She loved to cook for workhands, sew her daughters’ clothes, and maintain an immaculate house. She was active with the Wilkins Homemakers and a Red Coat volunteer at Sunrise Manor Nursing Home. In later years, reading and making beautiful embroidered and patchwork quilts were her favorite hobbies. At her death, she was the oldest living member of Middle Creek Baptist Church.
Besides her parents and her husband of nearly 65 years, she was preceded in death by an infant sister, Anna Lucille Crowe; a brother, William “Bill” Everett Crowe, Jr.; a special uncle, Louie Crowe and a son-in-law, William Miller.
She is survived by two daughters, Alice Miller of Louisville and Sharon (George) Williams of Elizabethtown; a grandson, Terry (Danette) Miller of Louisville; a great-grandson, Michael Frazier; two very special sisters-in-law, Sue Viers Rock and Geneva Viers and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, February 3 at Bennett-Bertram Funeral Home with Rev. Steve Hill and Rev. Stuart Skaggs officiating. Burial will follow in Middle Creek Cemetery.
Visitation will be held 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday and after 10 a.m. Friday at the funeral home.
