Evan "Junior" Hornback Obituary

Evan “Junior” Hornback, 85, of Sonora, passed away Tuesday, August 24, 2021, at Baptist Health Hardin after a brief illness.

Junior was raised in the Oak Hill community in LaRue County where he resided until the time of his passing. Of the Baptist faith, he was baptized at Oak Hill in the 1940’s. After graduating from Magnolia High School in 1955, he worked as a mechanic at Fulkersons’ in Sonora before moving to farming full time. In the 80’s he traveled all across the U.S. as a truck driver for RTC before his retirement. In his later years, when he was not off on some daytrip across Kentucky and the Southeast, he could often be found at Sammy’s Market or Brooks’ Café, eating breakfast or lunch cutting up with his friends. Never meeting a stranger, and always one with a story to tell, he knew all the good places to eat, all the best fishing spots, and he lived life to the fullest, sharing it all with his family and numerous friends along the way.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Evan Sr. and Ruby Pringle Hornback; a sister, Beverly Priddy, and two brothers-in-law, Homer “John” Hudgins and William “Billy” Hudgins.

He leaves behind to cherish his memory his beloved wife of 61 years, Martha Hudgins Hornback; a son, Jeff (Barbara) Hornback of Sonora; a daughter, Jennifer (Terry) Gardner of Sonora; six grandchildren, Megan (Ray) Nunn of Sonora, Ashley (Brett) Carter of Hodgenville, Jarred (Ashley) Gardner of Hodgenville, Keaton (Amanda Haycraft) Gardner of Sonora, Chelsea (Scott) Davenport of Elizabethtown, and Skyler Hornback of Sonora; 15 great-grandchildren, Colton, Aven, Harper, Ruby, Hayden, Mattie, Grayson, Emma, Owen, Bennett, Mila, Nolan, Lukas, Hunter, and Preslee; a brother, Cleston (Eula) Hornback of Sonora; a sister, Sharon (Larry) Nunn of Magnolia; a brother-in-law, Everett (Linda) Priddy of Danville.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, August 28, at Bennett-Bertram Funeral Home in Hodgenville, with Bro. Everett Priddy officiating. Burial will follow in the Red Hill Cemetery.
