David Perkins Obituary

David Perkins, age 77, of Campbellsville, originally of Hodgenville, passed away peacefully on October 30, 2025, at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center in Danville.  He was born on July 17, 1948, to the late Clifford Norman and Ruby Aileen Perkins.

David proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War, where he was stationed overseas in Okinawa, Japan, under the United States Army Pacific Command.  He entered active duty in 1968 and was discharged in 1971 with an honorable character of service. His time in service reflected the same dedication, strength, and quiet courage that he carried throughout life.

During his younger years, David was an avid street rod enthusiast, often seen at rod runs and car shows with his family and friends. Whether cruising in 1929 Ford Model A, his 1948 Chevrolet, or his 1923 Ford C-Cab, David took great pride in his cars and the memories they helped create. He loved playing games at the rod runs and sharing laughter, good times and his passion for classic cars with everyone around him.

In his later years, David found joy in riding motorcycles along Kentucky’s back roads and taking in the beauty of the countryside he so loved. He will be remembered for his fun-loving spirit, his kind heart and the joy he brought to all who knew him.

David was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Catherine Ann Perkins, his brother, Robert Neal Perkins; two sisters, Angela Perkins Voris and Mary Lois Wade.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 51 years, Joyce Ann Perkins, whom he married on February 1, 1974; a daughter, Lisa Gail (Carl) Byrd of Georgetown; a son, Eric Norman (Amanda) Perkins of Richmond; his beloved granddaughter, Katalina Byrd; two brothers, Martin (Dinah) Perkins, Daniel (Teresa) Perkins both of Hodgenville; three sisters, Elaine Perkins of Louisville, Connie Hunt of Hodgenville and Wanda Baumgardner of Hodgenville as well as many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, at Mt. Tabor Baptist Church with Billy Whitlock officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Tabor Baptist Church Cemetery.

Visitation will be held 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Bennett-Bertram Funeral Home in Hodgenville and after 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at Mt. Tabor Baptist Church until time for the funeral.
