Betty Skaggs Obituary

Betty Jean Skaggs, 95, of Hodgenville, passed away Sunday, March 22, 2026, at her daughter’s residence peacefully surrounded by her family.

Born and raised in Hodgenville, Betty spent her life rooted in the same community she loved so deeply. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and a great-great grandmother whose life was centered around her family.

Betty was faithful and active member of Wesley Meadows United Methodist Church, where she was involved in the Methodist Women and served in many roles throughout the years. Her faith was the foundation of her life, and she lived it out daily through her kindness, strength, and unwavering love for others.

She found joy in the simple things, working in her flowers, baking in her kitchen, and spending time with the people she loved the most. Her home was a place of comfort, conversation, and care. She loved her family fiercely, and that love will continue to be felt for generations to come.

Betty Jean Skaggs was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 53 years, John Thomas “JT” Skaggs, her daughters, Kathy Vincent and Carolyn Martinette and her parents, Ormond and Bertha Kennady Nichols.

She is survived by her loving children, Debbie (Sean) Speck and Bonnie Skaggs (Nick Vertrees); five grandchildren, Shannon (Robbin) Redmon; Jessica (Mike) Clark; Lyndsay Saunders; Carter Martinette; and Amy (Ned) Weatherby.

Her legacy continues through her great-grandchildren, Kaleb Redmon; Scarlett (Curtis) Pepper; Seth Redmon; Trent (Emily) Redmon; Landon Clark; Madison (Jordan) Spencer; Riley Jaggers; Noah Martinette; and Micah Martinette; and her great-great-grandchildren, Everett Pepper, Oliver Redmon, Barrett Watkins, Eden Spencer, and Stella Uthoff; along with many bonus grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren who were just as loved.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 26, at Bennett-Bertram Funeral Home with Bro. Stewart Skaggs officiating. Burial will follow in Red Hill Cemetery. She will be laid to rest next to her husband J.T. in Red Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and after 9:30 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
