Barbara Mae Emond, age 95, of Hodgenville, passed away, Tuesday, September 3, 2024, at Sunrise Manor Nursing Home in Hodgenville.
Barbara was a remarkable yet humble woman who dedicated her life to serving others. After graduating from West Seattle High School and attending Puget Sound College of the Bible, she poured her energy and passion into nurturing those around her. She served as the Dean of Women at Kentucky Christian College and later as Activities Director for Sunrise Manor Nursing Home, where her guidance and care left a lasting impact on countless students and families. As a devoted minister’s wife for 38 years, until his passing, Barbara’s unwavering support was a cornerstone of her family and community. A woman of many talents, Barbara was known for her vibrant gardens, where her green thumb brought life to everything she touched. She expressed her creativity through sewing and painting, always encouraging others to discover their own artistic passions. Her culinary skills were equally admired, especially her famous egg rolls, which were a favorite among family and friends. Barbara was also deeply involved in her community, actively participating in Union Christian Church, where she taught Sunday School and VBS; joined the Ladies’ Circle and Go Getters and contributed to the Hodgenville Women’s Club. Barbara had a deep love for travel, embracing the opportunity to explore new places and cultures. Her adventurous spirit was matched by her unwavering support for her children and grandchildren, always cheering them on in their endeavors. Despite any challenges, Barbara approached life with positivity and resilience, embodying the role of a loving mother and grandmother who made the best of every situation.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Bro. James Emond and her parents, Richard and Harriett Envelson Hughes.
Barbara is survived by a daughter, Nannette (Jerry) Lawler; three sons, Jim Emond, Jeff (LynnAnn) Emond and Jerry Emond; three grandchildren, Sally (Perry) Brown, John Michael Lawler and Noah Lawler; a great-grandson, Isaiah (Katelyn) Brown and a great-great-granddaughter, Aliyah Brown.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, September 7, at Bennett-Bertram Funeral Home in Hodgenville with Bros. Steve Campbell and Sid Lewis officiating. Burial will follow in Union Christian Church Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday and after 9 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
