Anna Jo Pepper

Anna Jo Akin Pepper, age 72, of Hodgenville, passed away, Thursday, August 22, 2024, at Baptist Health Hardin in Elizabethtown, with her husband by her side.

Anna Jo was born in Hodgenville on April 13, 1952, to her loving parents Josephine and Wesley Akin.  She was raised in Buffalo and grew up attending Holly Grove Baptist Church in Green County.  After graduating from Larue County High School, she attended Campbellsville College where she met her loving husband of 50 years, Roger Pepper, whom she married soon after they graduated.  She blessed the community as a junior high art teacher, an elementary guidance counselor, Sunday school teacher and pastors wife.  In addition, her important roles as a wife, mother and “Nana Anna” have left a lasting imprint on her family.  She loved God and her family with all that she had.  She read through the Bible multiple times and her faith guided her life, seeing her through the devastating losses of her parents and son and through her own illness.  Her faith was inspiring to many.  She will be sorely missed.

She was preceded in death by her son, Benjamin Keith Pepper and her parents, Wesley and Josephine Hyde Akin.

Anna Jo is survived by her husband, Rev. Roger Pepper; a daughter, Kristy Ann Pepper (Aaron) Lawson of Lexington; a brother, James “Jamie” Wesley (Melissa) Akin Jr. of Lexington and her pride and joy, two grandchildren, Violet Lawson and Benjamin Lawson.

Funeral services will be held at 2 P.M. Wednesday, August 28, at First Baptist Church in Hodgenville with Dr. Matthew Beasley and Rev. Tommy Tapscott officiating. Burial will follow in Buffalo Cemetery.

Visitation will be held 4 to 8 P.M. Tuesday at Bennett-Bertram Funeral Home in Hodgenville and after 11 A.M. Wednesday at the church.
