Woodie Handley, Sr. Obituary

Woodie Randolph Handley, Sr., was born on May 11, 1938, to the late Carnelia Price Andrews and Marion Handley and went to be with the Lord on July 5, 2018, at his residence.

 

He gave his life to Christ at an early age at First Baptist Church Hodgenville and was a faithful member of the Trustee Board and the Hubbard Cemetery Fund. He was a former member of the Hodgenville City Council, a member of Sportsman’s Lake and was recently asked to be a member of the LaRue County Hall of Fame Committee. He was a LaRue County Schools Bus Driver and Custodian for over 30 years and van driver for the John Kenyon Eye Institute for the past several years. He was a life-long LaRue County Hawks fan and an avid UK Wildcats fan.

 

Woodie was united in marriage to Aloma Mae Curle on April 15, 1957 and to this union five children were born.

 

He was preceded in death by his wife; a granddaughter, Kallye Thurman and six siblings, Alice Handley McClain, Sara Handley Taylor, Lila Handley Mitchell, Paul Handley, Sr., Robert Handley and Samuel Handley.

 

He leaves to cherish his memory, five children, Sybil Handley, Rhonda Handley, Woodie Handley, Jr., Jeanine Handley and Emily Knox; nine grandchildren, TeNesha (Rob) Murphy, Jeremiah (Monique) Handley, Dominique (Marlon) Bell, Justin Thurman, Whitney Jones, Katlynn Thurman, Isaiah Thurman, Addison Knox and Avery Knox; eight great-grandchildren, RJ Murphy, Ryann Murphy, Tristen Jackson, Roman Handley, Reagan Handley, Aliyah Shabazz, Camden Bell and Kamilah Myles-Thurman; a special cousin, Hope Dorsey-McNeill; two special friends, Paula and Johnny Varney and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

 

Funeral services will be held at 1 PM, Monday, July 9, 2018, at First Baptist Church Hodgenville, 404 South Lincoln Boulevard, with Rev. Billy Curle and Elder Jerry Wilkinson officiating. Burial will follow in the Hubbard Cemetery in Hodgenville.

 

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 PM, Sunday at Bennett-Bertram Funeral Home in Hodgenville and after 11 AM, Monday at the church.
