Robert L. Heady, 84, of Hodgenville, passed away on Saturday, October 13, 2018. He was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Ruby McDowell Heady; his parents, Terrill and Elma Heady and a sister, Mary Charles Hawthorne.
Bobby, a veteran of the United States Air Force served as Staff Sergeant at Scott Air Force Base in Belleville, Illinois and retired from U.S. Civil Service, Fort Knox, KY after 30 years of employment.
He was an ordained deacon and a member of First Baptist Church Hodgenville.
Other community involvement included serving as President of Hodgenville Lion’s Club and LaRue County High School Band Boosters. Later in life golf became a favorite past time. His passion for sports started earlier playing baseball in high school followed by coaching Larue County Little League and then many years umpiring/refereeing baseball, softball and basketball. Although a competitor, more important was encouragement and life lessons to be learned. The family often heard of the impact he made on the lives of others. While a member of LCHS “chain gang” working football games, more lasting friendships developed. As a grandfather he found enjoyment watching his grandchildren play those same sports.
He is survived by one son Jeff (Cindy) Heady; two daughters Debbie (Donnie) Dickerson and Karen (Stuart) Singleton; seven grandchildren Kristin (Derrick) Dunn, Emily (Josh) Morris, Morgan Dickerson, Ellen (Bryan) Shelton, Christopher Singleton, Meredith Dickerson and Erin (Ryan) Bratcher and thirteen great-grandchildren Riley and Hadley Morris, Maddie and Brayden Estes, Jax and Rylan Dunn, Ellie, Addie and Kaylie Shelton, Hunter and Bailey Bratcher, Keira and Hannah Fields
Funeral services will be held at 11 AM, Wednesday, October 17, 2018, at Bennett-Bertram Funeral Home in Hodgenville with Bro. Sid Lewis and Dr. Paul Broyles officiating. Burial will follow in Red Hill Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 1 to 8 PM, Tuesday and after 9 AM, Wednesday at the funeral home.
