Juanita Highbaugh Obituary

Juanita Jane Highbaugh, age 86 years, formerly of Hammonsville, and a resident at Sunrise Manor Nursing Home, peacefully passed away, Friday, January 25, 2019 surrounded by her family.

 

She was a member of Mt. Zion Separate Baptist Church in Magnolia.  She loved gospel music and enjoyed singing alto.  She was a retired 37 year employee of the Sunrise Manor Nursing Home.  Juanita was the first nursing employee hired at Sunrise Manor in 1967.  She dedicated her career to the residents as a certified nursing assistant and a certified medical technician.  After retirement, she worked in the adult daycare center, was a Red Coat volunteer, and as a private caregiver to several elderly people.  In 2013, Juanita was one of two recipients inducted into the Sunrise Manor Nursing Home Hall of Fame Café; which honored her for professional achievements, accomplishments and volunteerism.  She was commissioned as a Kentucky Colonel by Governor John Y. Brown, Jr. in 1982.  She enjoyed family, church, traveling, reading, clogging and cooking.

 

Juanita was the daughter of the late Lawrence and Pauline Bryant Butler of Bonnieville.  She was also preceded in death by her husband, Thomas L. Highbaugh; a son-in-law, Donald McCubbins; a great-grandson, Logan Daniel Overfelt and a special friend, Edward Thompson.  

 

She was the loving mother to three daughters who survive, Regina Adams, Melissa (Mike) Elliott and Elita McCubbins all of Bonnieville.  She was proud of her six grandchildren, Matt (Brittany) Adams, Paul (Meredith) Adams, John Michael (Rachel) Adams, Chris (Lindsay) Estes, Ben Estes and Heather McCubbins (Chris).  Juanita was blessed with nine great-grandchildren and one on the way, Elise, Amelia, Olivia, Luke, Weston and Jameson Adams, Madelyn and Brayden Estes and Harleigh Overfelt and two step-great-grandchildren, Griffin and Brody Hines.  She is also survived by two sisters, Mary Butler of Louisville and Marie Campbell of Elizabethtown; a sister-in-law, Brenda Highbaugh, an aunt, cousins, nieces, nephews and a host of friends.

 

Funeral services will be held at 12 noon (EST) Monday, January 28, 2019 at Dixon-Rogers Funeral Home in Magnolia with Bro. Robby Ward officiating.  Burial will follow in Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church Cemetery in Bonnieville.

 

Visitation will be 2-9 PM (EST) Sunday and after 10 AM (EST) Monday at the funeral home.
