James "Jim" Allen Winstead, age 68 years, of Hodgenville, passed away, Sunday, August 6, 2017 at the Hardin Memorial Hospital in Elizabethtown.

He was born March 11, 1949 in Evansville, Indiana and was raised in Slaughters, Kentucky. Jim worked and retired from Texas Gas, owned and operated the "One Stop Golf Shop" in the East End of Louisville, real estate agent for Century 21, a former dispatcher and owner/operator of Mercer Trucking in Louisville and a former member of Suburban #740 F & AM Masonic Lodge in Louisville. Jim retired in 2014, but remained active fishing, gardening and painting. Jim was an avid motorcycle enthusiast, where he was a member of the Goldwing Rider Association, an avid golfer and an avid University of Louisville Cardinal fan, especially following women's basketball. He was raised in the Methodist faith and was baptized at the age of 8. Jim served in the United States Army, attaining the rank of sergeant.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence Winstead and Clarice Jean Wilcox and his step-mother, Lorena Frances Winstead.

Jim is survived by his loving wife, Violet E. Winstead; a son, Damon Winstead of Kentucky; a step-daughter, Tamatha (Steve) Kress of Louisville; two step-grandchildren, Matthew Kress and Brandon Tharp and three cousins, Kerry (Debbie) Winstead, Gerald (Billie) Ashby and Betty Ruth Ashby all of Slaughters.

Funeral services will be held at 11:30 AM Wednesday, August 9, 2017 at Bennett-Bertram Funeral Home in Hodgenville with Bro. John Routh officiating. Burial will follow in the South Fork Cemetery.

Visitation will be 4-8 PM Tuesday and after 9 AM Wednesday at the funeral home until time for services.
